Multimode fibre carries 850nm light up to 500m from the HPE Networking Instant On R9D16A, a 1G SFP transceiver built to the 1000BASE-SX standard with an LC connector. It suits a Gigabit link between floors or nearby buildings where multimode fibre is already run, shorter and cheaper than a single-mode LX optic.
